Anyone attending the Museum of Broadcast Communications can view, among other works of art, a portrait of Wendy Williams eating a lamb chop — thanks to John Oliver.
The award-winning comedy writer and host of HBO’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver is bringing a collection of paintings to five museums nationwide for a limited time. The “Masterpiece Gallery” also comes with a $10,000 donation to the museum and another $10,000 to a local food bank (the Greater Chicago Food Depository). Oliver explains in a promotional video shared by the Museum of Broadcast Communications:
“…You may remember that last year, in an effort to help museums that were struggling due to the pandemic, we asked museums across the United States if they would be interested in hosting these masterpieces that we accumulated in the course of what was a very weird year. Well, for some reason, many agreed. So, over the next few months, our collection will be visiting exactly five museums, each of which I’m happy to say will receive a $10,000 donation from us, and, as a bonus, we’ll also donate another $10,000 to a food bank in their area.”
The Chicago Tribune noted in a report on Wednesday (October 20) that the museum is back from a long closure, and now, its permanent exhibits are revamped. It also includes a new celebration of the “Century of Radio,” around the corner from Oliver’s paintings, displayed through Sunday (October 24). Museum admission is free, the Tribune noted.
